Port of Patras
Harbour Hotels and Accommodation
(Patras, Achaea, Greece)
Patras really has never been more popular and is currently visited by literally millions of tourists every year. Serving as an important gateway into westerly Greece from western Europe, Patras is the capital of the Greek Achaea prefecture and the biggest city within the Peloponnese.
Although not brimming with tourist attractions, Patras is Greece's third city and its well-developed infrastructure features a very good selection of accommodation, although cheap hotels are not always easy to come by. Good budget lodging in Patras comes in the form of the Spyros Rooms, being conveniently close to the ferries and standing to the west of the port itself.
Hotels worth remembering include the Monumento I Quattro Mori, which is the closest hotel to the port; and the four-star AC Hotel Patras, which is located near the train station and comes with excellent leisure and business facilities. The centrally-located Hotel Città also warrants a mention, as does the Hotel San Francesco, which is farther out than the others, but located on the beautiful Pisan coast.
At the top end of the lodging scale, luxury accommodation includes the very elegant Hotel Byzantino on the Riga Fereou, and also the Primarolia Art Hotel on the Othonos Amalias. Formerly voted the European Capital of Culture, room rates in Patras are greatly influenced by demand and the city is especially busy during the carnival celebrations between mid-January and March.
